Mt.Yakedake 焼岳

Day hike

Mid July to mid October

Difficulty /

Intermediate

OVERVIEW

ree

Yakedake, literally means "a burning mounain" is relatively new active volcano that created Taisho-ike pond in Kamikochi with its explosion. Yakedake is located by the Kamikochi which is a big U shape valley created by the erosion and glacier activity in the past. The mounntains around this area are mostly volvano and Yakedake is still active. Nakanoyu onsen is our start. We hike through forest first half, then once we get over the tree line, we walk on rocks.

ree

We pass by the active steam coming from the ground at a point. You can feel the heat from the ground too. The look out view from the summit covers Kamikochi and Hotaka mountain ranges.
