Mt. Ontake 御嶽山
Day hike
OVERVIEW

Mt. Ontake is the isolated volcanic mountain in this Kiso area. The mountain is 2nd highest active volcano and one of the sacred mountain in the history. We walk a trail opened in 1700s by Fukan who used to be a strong samurai and became a monk later in his life. Lots of small shrines and statues on the way. In the past, the local people believed that their spirit was born and came back to Ontake. The trail is straight up way to the summit and panoramic view is waiting for you.
