Our main hiking area - Nagano
We have day hike and multi-day hike at our main base, Nagano prefecture. Day hike takes place all in Nagano prefecture at the moment.
For multi-day hike, we do have in Nagano and a few other destinations. The mountains in Nagano are mostly high altitude, so the season starts late and finishes earlier, mainly because of snow. Our main destinations are in Nagano, but we also have other destinations to maxmise your hiking and seasonal best experience in Japan.
Nagano pref. is located northwest from Tokyo. The fastest access frmo Tokyo is by shinkansen(bullet train.) It takes about 1 hour and half to Nagano city, the largest city in Nagano pref. And my base,Matsumoto city 2nd largest city in the prefecture is at down south from Nagano city. There is express train and bus from Shinjuku,Tokyo to Matsumoto. Also, there is an express train between Nagano and Matsumoto.
Nagano pref. has big area and 80 percent of the land is forest and mountain. We have Japanese Alps from north to south of Nagano pref. and that is the border of other prefectures next to Nagano. The alps is divided into three parts; north, south and central. The most popular one is north which has ski resorts upper north of that mountain range, and Kamikochi located at the south of the mountain range is getting more popular for international tourists.
Nagano is getting more popular and famous for the travel destinations like Karuizawa, Zenko-ji temple, snow monkeys, ski resorts, Nakasendo, Kamikochi etc. This is the place to get away from big cities and learn Japanese nature and culture.
The other destinations for mlti-day hike in early summer and autumn is Nikko and Chichibu. Those two areas have unique landscape and mounain cultures. For more details, check out our guiding page.
